The new leader of the Conservative Party is the MP for Richmond in the northern English county of North Yorkshire and worked as the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2020 to 2022. On Monday, October 24th, he was declared as the party’s new leader, and will formally take over as Prime Minister after meeting the King, meaning he will soon reside in one of the world’s best homes (and perhaps the most recognized property in the UK), 10 Downing Street in London. However, the 42-year-old politician is no stranger to the famous Westminster street, nor is he new to living in the heart of London. Here, we explore his vast property portfolio.
Where does Rishi Sunak live?
Rishi Sunak currently lives in a $7.4 million (£6.6 million) mews mansion in Kensington with his wife, Akshata Murthy, and their two daughters. British newspaper the Daily Express (opens in new tab) suggests the West London property offers the family an excess of space with its four bathrooms and two reception rooms that are spread over four floors. Beyond the home’s interiors, the Kensington Mews has access to a city garden that offers some privacy in the capital. Previously, the ex-Chancellor lived in an apartment above the UK Prime Minister’s official central London residence at 10 Downing Street (above) to be close to former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who lived in the larger apartment over 11 Downing Street. Reports suggest Rishi Sunak redecorated the apartment at his own expense before later moving to his current home Alongside his primary residence, Rishi Sunak reportedly has another home in the Chelsea neighborhood, located on Old Brompton Road. This is described as a ‘holiday home’ for visiting relatives. Over 230 miles north of London, Rishi Sunak and his family also own a rural country estate named Kirby Sigston Manor in Kirby Sigston, North Yorkshire. This village falls within the Prime Minister’s constituency, in Richmond near York. This Georgian mansion is said to be set in a 522,720 sq ft (12 acre) estate which features a large swimming pool the family can enjoy when in northern England. The home is also situated near the idyllic Cod Beck river, which is known for its wildlife, and surrounding moorland. However, Rishi Sunak’s property collection expands beyond the UK to the west coast of the US, where the family own a penthouse apartment in Santa Monica, California. After marrying Akshata Murthy in Bangalore in 2009, the couple reportedly based themselves in California before investing in homes in the UK.
