While you may already know the brand for its heritage wallpaper, fabrics, and paint designs, this homeware venture is new for Morris & Co. Stand-out pieces include the dinnerware collection (opens in new tab), the lift-off lid crates that are (almost) too beautiful to be practical and the intricately-printed linens that are woven in Europe’s best mills. And the good news is that we are giving away a table setting for six in our competition, below. Second prize winners will receive either: a set of four napkins and napkin rings; a set of canisters, apron and potholder; or a serving platter and fruit bowl. More details about the gorgeous collection are below – and how to enter the prize draw at the bottom. Good luck! Let’s get back to the collection for a moment. Other notable items include a large plate trimmed with a floral print – the perfect base for a cheese platter or your favorite canapés this party season. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, we’re making room for the navy and white fruit bowl that sits as an instant talking point on every countertop. Above all, though, it is hardest to ignore the graceful dinnerware collection – including hand-finished salad bowls that will bless your dining table with Morris & Co.’s unmistakably beautiful designs. These prints have gained admiration through the decades, and with approval from designer Young Huh, we are sure their appeal will endure. ‘William Morris is the OG Cottagecore master!’ says Young. ‘The use of his patterns today invokes a sense of history and coziness while still feeling relevant. William Morris’ references to the natural world are a wonderful way to bring the outdoors into the home.’ ‘The only thing I love more than hosting is hosting with a dinnerware set that makes an instant statement – and this is the case with Morris & Co.’s collection for Williams Sonoma,’ adds H&G’s Editor in Chief, Lucy Searle. Resetting the design narrative for each project, YHID’s work is about finding harmony and dynamism through the application of classic and modern design principles. She was included as a finalist in the Andrew Martin Design Review Volumes 24 and 25, and in 2011, she won the Connecticut Cottages & Gardens Innovation in Design Award. ‘For a curated Thanksgiving tablescape, I will pair these bowls and linen with some fall foliage to invite the natural world to my celebration. Then, when Christmas arrives, I can really get creative with an abundance of holly, candles, and red ribbons around the linen. I’m putting the reservations on my calendar already.’ And, while this dining room idea is perfect for fall and winter, we’re sure that, like William Morris’ prints, this collection will stand the test of time. They have already endured since the 1800s, after all. William Morris himself urged against having nothing in your house that ‘you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.’ This collection is both useful and beautiful. We think that’s the best reason to invest, don’t you? The Morris & Co X Williams Sonoma (opens in new tab) collection is available online now.
